Kentrosaurus was a species of herbivorous dinosaur called Stegosauria that is mostly known for the row of spikes that runs down it's back and tail. Kentrosaurus lived during the Mesozoic Era, during the late Jurassic period, and it was a smaller relative of its larger and famous relative, Stegosaurus (which this Dinosaur Species was Cut Off/Scrapped in Final Version of the Film).

Bio

These dinosaurs and several other species discovered a group of mammals before attacking they notice the resident weasel, named Buck, who throws berries at them. After the escape, another herd of kentrosaurus feeds on ferns, ignoring the subzero heroes.

Behind the scenes

Ice Age 3 Kentrosaurus Standing

Kentrosaurus' were not as robust as the ones portrayed in the movie. They had a lower head and shorter neck. They lived with other herbivores like Giraffatitan (African Relative of Brachiosaurus, Which this Dinosaur Species didn't appear in the Franchise) and carnivores like Allosaurus. Their Chinese relatives lived with other herbivores like Mamenchisaurus (Which this Dinosaur Species was Cut Off/Scrapped in Final Version of the Film) and Shunosaurus (Which this Dinosaur Species also didn't appear in the Franchise), and even deadly carnivores like Guanlongs and Yangchuanosaurus (Which this Dinosaur Species also didn't appear in the Franchise). They are one of the dinosaurs with small brains, like other stegosaurs. In the movie, they can stand and walk on their hind limbs, While real stegosaurs like the Kentrosaurus could stand on their hind limbs but not walk on them, They also possessed front teeth in the movie but in real life the only teeth they have are on the back if its skull. The differences are probably due to the movie's dinosaurs having millions of years to evolve under the ice, making them look different from their real-life counterparts.

In real life, Kentrosaurus didn't have a very long neck or a hunched back, but its close relative, Miragaia, did have one. It also lacks shoulder spikes, which the real animal had (Originally to have short neck and shoudler spikes in one of the Concept Art during production of Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs), fans had curiously refer the Kentrosaurus as either Miragaia or Stegosaurus (which this Dinosaur Species was also Cut Off/Scrapped in the Final Version), due to the lack of shoulder spikes and long neck.

The Kentrosaurus are one of the ornithischians in the Ice Age franchise to have a beak, alongside with Pachycephalosaurus and Triceratops, as most of the ornithischians in the franchise has lips to make them more expressive, which the dinosaurs featured in the third film didn't have in real life.

Ice Age Village Stegosaurus (Kentrosaurus) fact

In Ice Age Village, Kentrosaurus was erroneously called Stegosaurus, as seen in One of the Dino Facts, since the actual Stegosaurus was Cut Off/Scrapped in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, alongside with Mamenchisaurus, Parasaurolophus (although this Dinosaur Species first appeared in Ice Age Village and Ice Age Adventures), and some of the other Dinosaurs Species.
